Before an artwork becomes part of a L’MANE garment, it exists in another form entirely.
A composition of colour, line and movement begins on a surface before being translated onto fabric and eventually shaped around the body.
But the process is not simply about turning a painting into a print.
At L’MANE, the artwork continues to evolve as it moves from canvas to fabric to form.
IT BEGINS WITH ARTWORK
Original abstract artwork has become an important part of the L’MANE design language.
Some pieces begin with artwork, while others begin with a silhouette, fabric or construction idea. Often, the two develop alongside one another.
The freedom of abstract art allows us to explore colour, proportion and movement without being restricted by a fixed image.
A brushstroke, an irregular shape or an unexpected meeting of colours can become the starting point for something much larger.
FROM ARTWORK TO FABRIC
Translating artwork onto fabric changes it.
Scale becomes important. Colour responds differently depending on the material. A composition that works on a flat surface may need to be enlarged, cropped, repositioned or reconsidered once it becomes part of a garment.
We explore these changes carefully because the aim is not simply to reproduce the original artwork.
The fabric needs to give it another life.
WHEN THE GARMENT CHANGES THE ARTWORK
Once the printed fabric enters construction, another transformation begins.
Pleats can conceal parts of the artwork and reveal them through movement. Draping can distort a line. A seam can interrupt a composition. An asymmetric panel can isolate one section of colour while allowing another to disappear.
This is where artwork and garment become inseparable.
The silhouette is no longer simply carrying the print it is changing the way the artwork is experienced.
ARTWORK IN MOTION
The final transformation happens when the garment is worn.
What was once viewed on a flat surface now moves around the body. Colours shift position. Pleats open. Layers separate. Details appear from different angles.
The artwork is no longer static.
Movement becomes part of the composition.

For L’MANE, original artwork is not an addition made at the end of the design process.
It is one of the elements through which we explore art, form and movement sometimes leading the design, sometimes responding to it, but always considered in relation to the garment itself.
The canvas begins the conversation. Fabric transforms it. Form gives it dimension. Movement completes it.
