From Mumbai to Milan to Dubai: A Journey of Cultures, Creativity & Fashion

L’MANE’s design language did not develop in one place.

My journey began in Mumbai, continued through my studies in Italy, and eventually brought me to Dubai  three very different environments that have each influenced the way I see colour, form and fashion today.

Looking back, I can see elements of each place within the way I design, even when they are not immediately visible

MUMBAI: WHERE IT BEGAN

Growing up in Mumbai meant being surrounded by colour, fabric and contrast.

There is an incredible visual richness to the city  traditional craftsmanship alongside contemporary life, intricate detail beside simplicity, and colour appearing everywhere.

My interest in fashion began within this environment.

I became fascinated by fabric and by the possibilities of transforming something two-dimensional into something that could take shape around the body.

Mumbai gave me an early appreciation for colour, textile and expression  elements that would later become important to L’MANE.

ITALY: LEARNING TO SEE DIFFERENTLY

Studying in Italy introduced another perspective.

I became more conscious of proportion, construction and the importance of editing a design.

It taught me that creativity does not always mean adding more. Sometimes a silhouette becomes stronger when something is removed, a line becomes cleaner or one detail is allowed to take focus.

That relationship between expression and restraint continues to influence the way I approach design today.

DUBAI: WHERE L’MANE FOUND ITS HOME

Dubai is where those different influences eventually came together.

It is also where L’MANE began to develop its own identity.

Living and designing in a city where cultures and perspectives constantly meet gave me the freedom to build a brand that did not need to fit neatly into one definition.

Original abstract artwork could sit alongside architectural construction. Fluid silhouettes could meet unexpected structure. Regional considerations around movement, layering and coverage could exist within a contemporary womenswear language.

Over time, these contrasts became part of what makes L’MANE recognisable.

THREE PLACES, ONE DESIGN LANGUAGE

I don't look at Mumbai, Italy and Dubai as three separate chapters that produced three different aesthetics.

Their influence is more subtle than that.

Mumbai gave me an instinct for colour and textile.

Italy strengthened my understanding of form and proportion.

Dubai gave me the environment in which those ideas could develop into L’MANE.

Together, they helped shape a design language built around art, form, movement and individuality.

STILL EVOLVING

L’MANE today is different from the brand we began building years ago, and I expect it to continue changing.

Our move towards smaller drops gives us another way to explore ideas more freely while strengthening the elements that have become distinctly ours.

The objective is not to leave earlier influences behind as we grow.

It is to continue refining them.

From Mumbai to Italy to Dubai, each place added something to the way I see design. L’MANE is where those perspectives finally became one language.
