INSIDE THE L’MANE STUDIO
Every L’MANE piece begins before the fabric is cut.
Sometimes it starts with a piece of artwork. Sometimes with a colour, a proportion, an architectural line or the movement of a particular fabric. There is no single starting point and the process rarely follows a straight line.
Inside our Dubai studio, ideas move constantly between artwork, fabric and form.
WHERE AN IDEA TAKES SHAPE
A new drop begins with exploration.
Sketches, fabric swatches, colour references and artwork come together as we begin to understand what the idea could become.
A print may lead us towards a silhouette. A particular fabric may completely change the original sketch. A detail that seemed important at the beginning may disappear once we see the garment on the body.
Design develops through this back and forth.
FROM ARTWORK TO GARMENT
Original artwork is an important part of the L’MANE design language, but creating the artwork is only the beginning.
We experiment with its scale, placement and relationship with the garment. A section may be hidden within a pleat, interrupted by a seam or positioned so that it becomes visible only through movement.
The aim is not simply to place a print onto a finished silhouette.
The artwork and garment need to become one idea.
TESTING THE FORM
Once a design moves from sketch to sample, proportion becomes critical.
We look at how the fabric falls, where volume sits, how a sleeve moves, whether a pleat opens correctly and how the silhouette changes when the wearer walks.
Samples are adjusted, fitted and reconsidered until the balance feels right.
Sometimes the smallest alteration shifting a seam, changing the length of a layer or removing a detail entirely can transform the garment.
THE UNEXPECTED DETAIL
Not everything in a L’MANE piece is intended to be understood immediately.
We are drawn to details that reveal themselves gradually: artwork concealed within a fold, a contrasting layer beneath a fluid surface, an asymmetric construction or an unexpected change in proportion.
These moments give a garment another dimension without overwhelming it.
They are often the details that make a piece distinctly L’MANE.
CREATING IN SMALLER DROPS
Our drop model allows this process to remain focused.
Rather than producing large collections simply to fill a traditional fashion calendar, we can develop smaller groups of pieces around a clear idea and introduce them when they are ready.
It also allows us to produce more carefully, working in limited quantities and using made-to-order production where appropriate.
Each new drop adds another chapter to the L’MANE design language without replacing what came before.
ART. FORM. MOVEMENT.
Inside the studio, these three ideas constantly interact.
Artwork changes when translated onto fabric. Fabric changes when given form. And form is only fully understood once the garment begins to move.
That relationship sits at the centre of how we create.
