There are pieces we are drawn to before we can fully explain why.
It might be the movement of a fabric, an unexpected combination of colour, the proportion of a silhouette or simply the way a garment changes once it is worn.
Fashion is visual, but our response to it is often emotional.
DESIGNING WITH EMOTION
At L’MANE, emotion often enters the design process before a garment takes its final form.
An artwork can begin with a particular feeling. Colour can create energy or restraint. Fluid fabric can introduce softness, while architectural construction can completely change the presence of a silhouette.
These decisions influence not only how a piece looks, but how it is experienced.
COLOUR AS EXPRESSION
Colour has always played an important role in the L’MANE world.
Sometimes it appears through expressive abstract artwork. At other times, a restrained palette allows construction and form to take greater focus.
We don't assign one emotion to a particular colour or tell the woman wearing it what she should feel.
The response is personal.
What feels powerful to one woman may feel calming to another and that individuality is what makes colour interesting.
THE FEELING OF MOVEMENT
Movement adds another emotional dimension to clothing.
A pleat opening as you walk, a fluid layer shifting around the body or a hidden colour appearing unexpectedly can change the experience of a garment.
These moments cannot always be understood when a piece is hanging still.
They happen between the garment and the woman wearing it.
CLOTHING BECOMES PERSONAL
A designer can create the artwork, choose the fabric and determine the silhouette, but eventually the garment leaves the studio.
From that point, its meaning changes.
It becomes connected to the woman who chooses it how she wears it, what she notices about it and why she continues to return to it.
That is perhaps the most interesting emotional connection fashion can create.
We design the piece. The woman wearing it gives it meaning.
