The Making of “Abstract Resilient”: Inspiration Behind the Collection

Abstract Resilient began with an exploration of resilience not as something rigid, but as something that can adapt, shift and continue to move.

That idea shaped a collection where expressive abstract artwork meets structured pleating, asymmetric form and fluid movement.

THE IDEA BEHIND THE COLLECTION

We were interested in the contrasts within resilience.

Strength can exist alongside softness. Structure can allow movement. Something can change without losing its identity.

These contrasts became part of the design language of Abstract Resilient, influencing everything from the artwork and colour to the pleating and proportions of the garments.

DEVELOPING THE ARTWORK

Abstract artwork became one of the starting points for expressing this idea.

Fluid strokes, layered colour and irregular compositions created a sense of freedom and movement.

As the artwork was translated onto fabric, we explored its scale and placement in relation to each garment. Rather than simply placing a print onto a finished silhouette, the artwork was considered as part of the construction itself.

STRUCTURE MEETS FLUIDITY

Pleating introduced a different character to the collection.

The precision of the folds created structure against the freedom of the artwork, while still allowing the garments to move and change on the body.

Asymmetric cuts further disrupted traditional proportions, creating silhouettes that feel different depending on the angle from which they are viewed.

This contrast became central to Abstract Resilient: controlled yet expressive, structured yet fluid.

FROM CONCEPT TO GARMENT

As sketches became samples, each design was refined through fabric, proportion and movement.

We considered how artwork travelled across a silhouette, where pleats interrupted or revealed the print, and how asymmetric construction changed the balance of each piece.

Some ideas became more pronounced during development. Others were simplified.

Through this process, the original concept of resilience moved beyond the inspiration and became visible within the garments themselves.

PART OF THE L’MANE WORLD

Abstract Resilient remains part of L’MANE alongside the collections and drops that have followed.

We don't believe a piece loses its relevance simply because something new has been introduced. Each collection represents a different exploration of the L’MANE design language  art, form, movement and unexpected detail.

Abstract Resilient is one expression of that language: a study in contrasts and a reminder that strength does not always mean standing still.

Sometimes, strength is found in the ability to move, adapt and transform.
